She completely immerses herself in the character and this is certainly one of her best performances

in her career. One thing which makes her role so special is her sense of comic timing. In the climax

scene, when Fritz warns her about how she could destroy the paper’s history and reputation if she

published the story about the Pentagon Papers (also considering the fact that the source for the story

is the same as that of the Times), she very calmly says, “Well, my decision is to run it, and now I’m

going to bed”. She makes the character relatable to every woman who has experienced insecurities,

who has been stopped from doing what is right, and who has been looked down upon by the society.

Tom Hanks creates the perfect balance to Streep’s character as editor-in-chief Ben Bradlee. There is
only one word to describe his portrayal of Bradlee: - Brave. With his impeccable dialogue delivery,
he delivers a power-packed performance which can almost resemble the actual person. However, it
is the screenplay written by Josh Singer and Liz Hannah which not only brings out the best out the
ensemble cast, but also keeps the audience glued to their seats. Even the background score by John
Williams adds to the mystery element of the story.

What starts off as a political thriller ends up as a courageous take on the Freedom of the Press. The
Post puts forward a powerful message for all political leaders and aspiring journalists i.e. “The
Press is supposed to serve the Governed, not the Governors”. I would definitely recommend this
movie to everyone.
