in large breeds like the German Shepherd and the Saint Bernard, and Patellar Luxation, or Persistent
Dislocation of the Kneecap, in toy and miniature breeds.India has the highest number of stray dogs
in the world – somewhere around 30 million. Around every street corner, under every vada pav
stall, in every community, you’ll find a plethora of stray dogs. Some injured because of the unfair
treatment they receive from rash, unconcerned drivers. Some shivering and cold because nobody is
kind enough to give them some shelter from the heavy rain, and the very unfortunate, emaciated
ones who nobody feeds or feels for. They're a situation for the citizens of India. They're just another
nuisance underneath “dirty water” on the list of problems the government needs to fix. No mother
will scrutinise her own child’s appearance. Then why does everyone choose to take home a Golden
Retriever or a Siberian Husky? Why not a perfectly healthy pariah who needs a home? Adopting
dogs will always work in one’s favour. Whether it’s the look of gratitude that’ll never fade away, or
the everlasting self satisfaction of having saved someone’s life.
