and Charles de Gaulle succeeded Moulin as Joint Presidents of the CNR but by October of the very
same year, de Gaulle had manipulated his way into becoming the sole leader.
On 3rd June 1943, the saboteurs eviscerated 300 tons of tires at the Michelin factory in Clermont-
Ferrant and on 19th December, Résistants engaged in heavy fighting with Nazis in Bernex, France.
19th January 1944 - Resistance workers bombed the Usines Ratier Airscrew Works in south-western
France wreaking havoc to it so thoroughly that it completely ceased production during wartime.
While German guards patrolled the yards outside, charges with 30 minute fuses were laid which
detonated with such force that a 30 ton press was sent rocketing 25 feet into the air.
By 10th May 1944, the Resistance garnered a membership of over 100,000 Frenchmen and
demanded greater military aid from the Allies. On 28th June, the resistance workers executed
Philipe Henriot, Minister of Information and local Milice leader, in reprisal to which the Milice
leader in Lyon, Paul Tovier selected and executed 7 Jewish prisoners.
By 16th August 1944, French Resistance fighters captured along the Swiss border, three enemy
posts and liberated Toulouse in France on 20th August. The Organisation Juive de Combat played a
vital role in the liberation of Paris, Lyon, Toulouse, Grenoble and Nice.
