Junior Council

Our Journey From Election To Selection

As growing children, there are plenty of 'firsts' that each child experiences. This article is about 'Our Journey' in the first ever Junior Student Council election held for the PYP students of JNIS.

It all began prior to Christmas vacation, when Ms.Cayla, our PYP coordinator announced that they are going to hold elections for Junior Student council. All students were given an opportunity to stand for the election. Students interested in becoming part of the council were made to write an application letter, stating why they should be selected. Plenty of students applied for the post of Junior Head Girl/ Head Boy/ House Captain. Ms. Cayla along with the grade 4 teachers then shortlisted the candidates who would run for the various posts.

The voting day was announced for 6th January 2019, after the Christmas vacation. Students running for a position had to prepare campaign posters and a speech during the vacation. Once the school reopened, we were ready with our speeches and posters. To encourage participation from all, the students who were not running for the post of student council were selected to be part of the Election Committee. They had to perform the important task of preparing the ballot boxes, counting votes and ensuring that the elections were conducted fairly. Soon the voting day arrived and all students and teachers casted their votes. Ms. Cayla announced the results two days later. We were truly overjoyed to hear her announce our names as the Head Girl and the Head Boy. On 17th January 2019,the Foundation Day of our school the new student council was felicitated in the Investiture Ceremony. Thus began 'Our Journey' of being the first ever 'Selected' Junior Head Girl & Boy of our young new school. We hope to complete this journey with the support and encouragement of our fellow student council members, teachers and all students in a fair and responsible manner and to the best of our abilities.
